Giddy As A Schoolgirl

I’m as giddy as a schoolgirl on the first day of school, walking into her new classroom … standing there … her best friend! Yay! The same class! Eeeeek! Remember that feeling? Giggles, squeals, and shrieks of delight, followed by the comfort of familiar.

What a gift to find you here.

My heart has been brewing this connection place: a comfy corner, to visit from wherever we are, link cyber-arms, possibly get called out for talking too much, pass notes back and forth, and share our journeys.

Short years

Have you heard since a wee-child, “The older you get the faster time flies?” Yeah, me too! I didn’t believe it. My naïveté dreamed days went on forever, and, a year was eternity. When childhood passed, reality hit. I turned calendar pages like a ninja and discarded the annual with ridiculous frequency.

What is this phenomenon? Not a clue. Yet, I cling to the years slipping by and pray I invest well and live with purpose.

James, Jesus’ brother, talked about this,

“You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14)

If you’ve lost a loved one, you have stared this in the face and folded from the gut punch, their life, indeed, seemed a “little while”. So will yours.

Long Days

You know, … they move as slow as a slug. Like, as a young mom, when demands are high and clocks freeze. A crying baby, a sick child, husband working hours beyond, no spouse, large responsibilities, self-expectations above reality, longing for the elusive gold-mine; sleep. Ughhh! Those are long hard days, my friends.

Long days happen every year. The ones where you fear collapse before respite comes. Where day outlasts energy supply. Yep, those are numerous!

Moses experienced long days, he led thousands (some say millions) of children around a wilderness/desert for 40 years! He wrote in his Psalm prayer (he prayed a lot),

“A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by ….” (Psalm 90:4)

Elaine translation: I live a thousand years, and God counts it as a day. Girlfriend, that’s a loooonnnngggg day. Moses is one of my dearest friends, I can so relate!

Forever moments

Here is my favorite part of this journey we live: God is with us. Whether a long day, or fleeting year, He’s here. Sometimes, we need to press pause, and/or open our eyes, to see The Eternal crossing over the finite. Moments where God becomes visible.

Sound familiar? Audible gasps, chill bumps, profound words echoing in your heart, unexplainable happenings, moments you will never forget. I call these “God moments”; when my spirit witnesses an interaction only defined by the Divine. These are forever moments. When an eternal God, becomes personal, and you are changed. It can be the tiniest occurrence, yet, you are sure, it was not of this world; God is in real-life, real-time, present and in action.

Maybe, you haven’t collected any “God moments” or, maybe, you have a basket-full. Either way, I would consider it joy, for you to join me here, where we can share this wild and crazy life from wherever we are: Short years. Long days. Or Forever Moments.

Let’s push our desks together!

  1. Elaine, you took me back to my school girl thoughts that I had long forgotten, but I realize I feel that way about you every year we get together. There’s Elaine, my familiar friend!!
