Where’s YOUR spot?
I’ve noticed over the years … I’ve got MY spots!
In every house we’ve lived, I’ve had MY physical spot!
You know the place your soul sighs and feels completely at home and totally relaxed!
I’ve also noticed in traveling I’ve found MY spots! I can find one from mountains to sea and places in between!

Years ago, my husband and I discussed retirement! We loved the ocean, but also found great solace in the mountains. As a child, my family vacationed in both places. I find rest and peace in either. Our discussion concluded by thinking we should find a spot where the mountains meet the sea. Haha, idealists and dreamers!
Then, we traveled to the Middle East. In Israel, we found OUR spot. Turns out the much loved Sea of Galilee is a sea surrounded by mountains! Both of us agreed it fit our description perfectly. We could surely find rest there! We joked, “Maybe this is OUR retirement spot!” Dreaming again!

Its beauty and peace have not left me. Jesus retreated there. He found rest and peace even amid physical storms! Truly, the spot is tried and tested; proven capable! It resonated with me in deep, soulful places! It would not be our retirement spot, but seeing the sea meet the mountains was a picture of how it could be.
The last two years, since we’ve lived on a lake, I’ve found MY spot. The peace and beauty of a body of water where the expanse of sky, trees, nature, sunrise, and sunset holds its unique allure.
Every morning, I sit with my back posted at one end of the couch with outstretched legs towards the other and the view of a peaceful, calm lake framed in trees has become MY SPOT! It’s my daily spot! The Lord has granted me such peace in my visual context! My soul sighs and thrives.
We will once again vacation at our favorite “home” beach this year, the Outer Banks, NC. Last year was a Great Lake. Prior years have been mountains and sea towns up and down the east coast, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Canada, the west coast and places abroad. I find peace and rest in many places, especially when family is with me!
Where is YOUR spot?
In your Home?
Away?
Has any place taken your soul by surprise?
I hope peace, rest and family find you this summer!
Sitting in MY home spot,

Yes! At home it’s my patio and my recliner. Away from home, it’s the CO mountains, Smith Mtn Lake and after celebrating the 4th with friends…I have a new favorite local lake!

Gosh, this is a hard one because I can find my spot almost anywhere I go! Like you, I love the beach or the mountains. I find peace by just being surrounded by the beauty of each area. I think my favorite beach spot is Emerald Isle, NC. So many family memories are held there as it was one of the places we vacationed at as a family quite often when the kids were young. We have friends that have a second home there and they have opened their home many times for us to share their peace of heaven. The sound of the ocean calms my soul… I could certainly use a trip their now!
