I’m sure most of you are amid everything Christmas: decorating, shopping, baking, hosting, celebrating, wrapping, etc. I am too!
This year, my home arrangement has changed a bit. Since my Dad’s passing in September, a few furniture pieces came home with me. Living in a tiny house has made me question every decision I made before I lived in this tiny house. But I wanted to see if two small pieces could fit into my existing layout.
One of those pieces is a small washstand that has been in my parent’s home for a very long time! I’m trying it out in my wide hallway between two chairs. I had a smaller table there, but swapped it out. I think it’s staying there, but a few months will tell.
Christmas decor presented a dilemma. I used to move the small table and place a four-foot tree in its place for the season. I know I don’t need two trees in a tiny house, but this one was my favorite! It held all my picture ornaments!! If you know me; you know I LOVE pictures!!
My current wall and surface space caused many frames to be sent off! It was my hardest downsizing! I have no place to put the number I had! My children’s large senior portraits (24” x 30”) fit in the house they came home to. In this house, there is no wall space to display their beloved beauty. They captured my children perfectly! The thought of parting with them brought many tears and “No” I could not get rid of them, but I can’t display them either, so I wonder the wisdom in keeping them. I digress …..
Years ago, I took my picture ornaments, the oldest being MY first grade picture, and started their own tree. They get lost on the large tree and, frankly, were overtaking it! On my current “slim tree”, I would have no space for other sentimental ornaments. So, the past two Christmases I made space for the 4’ tree. Honestly, after adding two more granddaughters this past year, it may have been too small.
This year, I can’t move the washstand and to put the 4’ tree on top would be out of proportion; the tree would have been too high and we wouldn’t be able to see the ornaments even halfway up. So, what’s the use if we can’t see them?
I got to thinking … I told my daughter, I want a twig tree to set on top of the washstand. That way we could see the pictures better and it would give airy visual space through the tree. So, I began my search. This is how it happens for me…I get an idea and then realize no one makes what I am looking for! It happens over and over. I found a few trees with not enough space and others were too flimsy to hold my healthy portion of pictures.
It hit me … MAKE ONE!
I’m surrounded by trees, and this option would not take up storage space. I could just recreate it every year. I realized the possibility of a “fail”, but thought a “try” was in order.
I knew which base/vase I wanted to use. Then I made a trip to the woods. My husband was on standby to cut limbs if needed. It took me no time at all to come across branches I thought would work! I hauled them to the house and set out constructing, creating and installing my latest art/Christmas project.
It turned out perfectly! (According to me!)

I used fairy lights and thin black velvet ribbon as hangers to pull it all together. I also added a large black velvet bow on the vase to hide some “ugly” and a bit of greenery around the bottom.
So far, so good! It hasn’t fallen over or moved! Believe me, I’ve thought of that. I weighted the bottom of the vase.
Have you ever seen a twig tree like this before?
Have you reimagined a Christmas arrangement or decor this year?
Tell us or show us with a pic in the comments!
I never know when creativity will surface and take wings!
I hope this season is holding some dear moments, memories in the making and joy for you!
Christmas Blessings,

I’m using what I have in this new to us home. Not a fan of the hole over the fireplace but I love how my beloved manger scene fits perfectly in this spot!

Your antique wash stand looks exactly like the one I have, except mine is missing the top part. It was in the entryway of my parent’s house for as long as I can remember and now it is my living room/entryway. I’m trying not to let it turn into a “catch all”!
