Time to Celebrate!!

Happy Independence Day!!

Happy 1-Month-Old “Bolt” … Today!

Tomorrow, we once again celebrate the birth of our country. A country founded for freedom, even though, regrettably, freedom was not for all.

So much has changed in the past 248 years! More than my single lifespan can imagine! The people who took this territory, I am sure, could never have dreamed of the country we live in today.

I have pride in some parts and shame in others. As I am sure you do as well. Just because I love my country doesn’t make me blind. I can identify places where improvements are needed without even trying.

I’m not here to discuss all that: it’s a LOT!!

What I want to discuss is a freedom I’ve experienced and better understand this year for the first time!!!

I have had the outstanding privilege via our freedom of speech to publish an entire book of words and tell a story that NO ONE … NOT ONE PERSON had to approve! And NO ONE edited a single word I wrote! I got to choose every single letter typed and printed!

Do we fully grasp what that means?

In so many countries around the world, people lack this freedom! Somebody within their governing body exercises the power to control what’s said and how it’s said. And someone in their governing body has the authority to decide exactly what’s printed and distributed. I cannot imagine living inside of these parameters and not have freedom to say what I want to! I’ve never experienced that and hope I never do!

Over the years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into writing my blog, FB posts, Instagram posts, Short Stories, articles, and even a newspaper column, yet never once has anyone edited them for content. Yet, it never hit me like this year!

An entire book of words and I had the freedom to write the words and concepts I wished. I even had the freedom to present my religious views and faith in whatever manner I chose.

I hope we are not so complacent or desensitized that we forget this! It’s a protected right for us, but for many in the world, it is not!!

This year, when the fireworks explode high in the sky, I am making a conscious choice to celebrate the freedoms that have dawned on me anew this year!

I’m also gonna pretend they are for “Bolt From The Blue’s” launch into the world untethered to another man’s opinion, wishes or censorship!
