I am going to talk about what I seldom talk about today.
My heart is heavy and my spirit weighty.
I rarely to never talk about politics! I don’t prefer to and think each of us makes our own personal decisions on the topic. I don’t even like to be in the room when friends broach the subject. I have spoken on subjects in the political realm and supported others, but the elections overwhelm me. It’s so, so, so much banter and unkindness amidst rudeness and childishness. My spirit grieves and my stomach sickens.
That being said … and please hear what I am saying and don’t add to what I am not saying. Don’t interpret my words according to your perspective. There is no hidden meaning or agenda!!
I want to talk about humanness.
When I watched President Biden for a few minutes and the now famous segment happened. I had to turn off the TV! Those lost eyes, wavering speech and incoherent sentences!! Ughhhhh🥺 My heart sunk. My immediate response was sympathy, compassion and heartbrokenness for this man we call President and his current physical health. It was horribly sad… tears are forming as I write these words.
He is a man, human first! He reflects God’s image and there is something about him that resembles the God I love. His body is failing him. His age is apparent. It will happen to all of us to different degrees and forms. We reach a ripe old age and things change. We have no control over it and must live our days despite it.
I’ve worked in a nursing home. I’ve seen it overtake even the best humans.
Truly, I couldn’t care less about his titles and positions. In those moments, I was watching a vulnerable human man struggle with a task he once commanded. It was shocking and alarming and pitiful. I felt horribly bad for him.
In the days that followed, I even became angry about those around him who weren’t honest enough to remove him from the situation gracefully. I am sure they hyped him on the best drugs possible, and this was all he could muster.
The word “elder abuse” came out of my mouth. I don’t know who to hold responsible; family, party or politicians, but I felt what I was watching was cruel and unusual punishment. Why oh why did those deciding put him through that? They had to have some idea of his mental state and the possibilities of potential outcomes. Yet, they put him out there, knowing. That reaches a level of “inhumane” for me!
The surrounding people were not honest with him about his abilities!
I know some of you will say … he wanted to, he’s a career politician, it was his fault.
Okay, maybe I don’t know him personally.
Most of us who have had elderly parents, especially ones with diminished mental abilities, know … “wants” are not always rational or come from a place of good judgement.
Who was safe-guarding him and his personhood? Who was lovingly speaking what was best for him, to him? Who was honest with him?
My heart was melting for a man who held our country’s highest office and nobody was really protecting his own best interest. It truly appeared that way to me.
Politics aside. Doesn’t humanity/humanness come before politics?
He is just a man. Willing to serve. If I agree with his views or not, human is more important. It is our foundation. It was Jesus’ way. People are God’s highest concern, his beloved creations.
President Biden is a man created by God. We should all have the decency to care for men, women, humans before any political parties or lines are even in the picture.
Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s…”
Thank you, Mr. President, for your service.

I hope you enjoy many years with your children and grandchildren without the pressures of political office. Go gather all the hugs, kisses and support they can give you!
I am so thankful you, the man, withdrew from the race. My heart hopes you feel free and content. You are a man first, not a politician. That was a career. I hope your years are spent living life to its fullest and offering those around you all your “man-heart”.
Politics took enough, maybe too much!
People are Humans, even Politicians,

You are so right, Elaine. President Biden’s decline has been a sad and difficult thing to watch. It has brought back many memories of my Mom, watching her slip farther and farther away while still here with us physically — that blank, frightened stare, searching for words that formerly came so easily. Our instinct, as her family, was to protect her on all levels; hopefully, allowing her dignity to remain intact — knowing that she would never do or say some of the things she did under normal circumstances. Dementia in any form is a cruel thief; and we must all remember that the person inside that body is still God’s creation deserving of love and respect.

Elaine, I said some of the same words and felt the same feelings as you. We mentioned elder abuse too. It’s sad that someone felt that he needed to be exploited for whatever reason.
I hope we always honor the man first.
