Have you seen this?
I saw it while waiting for my “23 and me” results I talked about last week.
Read HERE, if you missed it.
Watch the video and then we’ll discuss it.
Wow!! Shocker!! Thought provoking!!!
Have I considered how many people contribute to my life?
I suppose in small ways I have. But, not in this graphic visual way!!
I’ve known as far back as I can remember that my paternal grandfather is the third generation in America, from Germany. Dad has talked to me about some of those three generations. Mostly, just my great grandparents. I don’t think he could recall names much beyond that.
But, 400 years. 12 generations!! Goodness me, that’s practically beyond my bandwidth!
Okay, so if you’re a Bible believer, we all descended from Adam and Eve. Their DNA is not available, so tracing our lineage to the beginning is impossible. So, in my mind, there is this big gap between Adam and Eve and my relatives in America.
I have not felt connected to anyone before that.
I’m beginning to want to.
I heard one genealogy specialist note that … When people migrated to America, most of their geology started there. It was a “look forward” mentality, not a “look back”. Therefore, few Americans know about their heritage beyond US borders. Honestly, most aren’t interested until their later years.
She further explained … While most cultures teach their young from early on about their heritage. Thus, traditions are carried on, treasured, known and kept! Not so with Early American Immigrants. They took up American customs and many dropped the traditions from their homeland.
Add to that … when the World Wars happened, American citizens from European Countries wanted to dissociate from their birth culture because of its less than ideal reputation in America. To blend in and avoid standing out, they dropped cultural traditions. Sometimes done for safety or a perceived threat.
Have you done a family tree? How far back did you go?
How Did The Video Effect You?
Random Question for You:
Has anyone done a European Cruise? What would you recommend?
Your likes and dislikes?
