BIG NEWS …

It may not be big news for you, but it is for me!

Things are happening over here …

We Are Moving!!

I might add “again”. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may remember another move four years ago..

We have loved our lakeside retreat, but there are other, bigger things pulling us northward.

My husband and I agreed long ago that when he retired, we would move near one of our children. We both had parents who didn’t live in proximity to children when they retired. We felt the push and pull of them not being near any family members. That settled it for us. We want to live near one of our children when work/career doesn’t dictate our residence.

The time is near. At the end of the month, Jim will no longer be employed as a pastor at a local church. The time is right and has been planned for a while. We love our church family and will stay until our house sells no matter how long.

To make it clear, my husband will never fully retire! He already has a corporate part-time Chaplain job he will continue (he loves it). He’ll probably secure another part-time role, paid or voluntary. A busy life interacting with others is what he loves. For him, the Chick-fil-A host/hostess position, which includes greeting, assisting customers, refilling drinks, and chatting seems like a perfect fit. Plus, he loves Chick-Fil-A food!! He’ll find a new sweet spot, I am sure.

I plan on keeping my granddaughter at least one day a week and likely more!

Can you see my grin?

It’s wide and glowing!

This will be the first time we’ll move out of this greater region in 39 years!

It will be a big adjustment, we expect.

We will be near our daughter and her family. We will once again, after six years, have a grandchild “down the street”. Oh boy, what can compare to that?!?

The lake has been my peaceful place, but seeing our children and grandchildren on a much more frequent basis tops everything else! It thrills us.

Plus, we’ll only be about 2 hours away from this area, so we can visit our friends. The ones God blessed us with to travel the last 39 years with! They are priceless.

Another perk: We will be two hours closer to both of our boys and their families. When we get off the plane, we will be home instead of traveling two more hours by car! That sounds lovely too!

Even more perks: We grew up around the DC beltway, so it has familiarity for us. And we will be closer to my siblings and some of our childhood friends.

Living in a more suburban setting may be an initial shock to our more rural living, but honestly, we don’t prefer rural. It’s been lovely for a time. Honestly, we travel up to my daughter’s quite a bit now.

We are still young enough to put down roots in a community, assimilate, and not be plopped in my daughter’s lap which is NOT our goal.

So … we’ve been busy getting our house and property ready to go on the market, which is work! This Friday is the day! After, we get a contract, we will in earnest pack the rest. When you have a “tiny house” there is no place to store packed boxes and closets are already full of living day to day. So, we are on hold till we have a concrete plan to move forward.

We can’t believe we are this old, but the calendar confirms it! Good thing is, we don’t feel this old. Our hearts are still in their twenties/thirties. Do you know what I mean?

I know I have lived the days, but the years just pile up disproportionately by my internal calendar😉

So, here we go onto the next chapter and adventure!

If you know anyone interested in an adorable lakefront cottage, send them my way!

I’ll keep you posted!

Anybody else anticipating a move this year or just had one?

What are you looking forward to?
