The last day of January 2024 … Wow!
Yesterday was my first voyage out of the house by myself since January 1st!!!
What??
If you need to catch up with me, check this POST.
I would never have guessed my year would start this way!! I had plans, not resolutions, but plans. I’ve noted before that resolutions do not suit me. Long ago, I figured out I’m not a resolution person. Life is too fluid.
Case in point, how could I ever have predicted I would sleep January away? Vowing to keep resolutions finds me lacking when life changes. And it always changes, on a dime. Then unachievable vows give me feelings of defeat or stress.
Who wants to start a new year off feeling defeat and/or stress from the statements you wrote and vowed to accomplish?
Hip hip hooray for you if resolutions work for you!
For those of us who’ve decided we function best without them, bravo to us too!
I tend towards making plans and having a list of priorities which are revisited and changed when life proves unpredictable. I function best under fluidity.

This year, I have rolled all my plans for January into February and beyond. I’m moving completion dates and prioritizing daily. Making a few small steps forward feels so good after living on the couch for the month!
If life has impaled your month, take your time in moving forward into plans for 2024. The calendar keeps rolling, but moving at your own personal pace is best for your health. Anything accomplished, even if it’s making your bed or fixing dinner, counts as a daily accomplishment. Some days brushing my teeth felt like a biggie! Moving from bed to the couch felt monumental!
Do not let other people, social media, the news, or anyone/thing allow you to feel defeated or stressed! You should live your life at your own pace, especially when illness, grief, or big changes invade it.
If you put stress on yourself to achieve … talk to yourself in the mirror! Tell yourself life is too short to stress about what you can’t change! Live in the present and what you can do today to take small steps toward reaching health or your plans. Some days, give yourself grace in accomplishing nothing!! When you can, you will!
Be content with the pace life hands you to move forward. We are in control of so very little. Don’t hold yourself responsible for the things you have no control over. Roll with the changes. Try not to allow disappointment to set in. Accept what you cannot change and rework plans.
If you haven’t guessed, I am talking in the mirror today! Thank you for listening!
Here we come February with lists and plans!
We will find contentment in every small step forward. Some days, we will feel elated by staying in bed or on the couch. We refuse to let life changes defeat or sideline us. We will continue to make progress despite life’s challenges. Goals and plans are flexible.
As my Mom reminded me … “Count Your Blessings!” Especially when life is hard or unpredictable . It helps and highlights what’s important.
(Out of the blue, one day, an unknown package arrived on my doorstep. It was a t-shirt stating the above. I’ve worn it for years, especially when life intersects with changes. I think it was one of her life secrets! Thanks Mom!)
